That depends on your insurance plan. Some plans require a referral from your primary care physician before seeing a specialist. We recommend checking with your insurer before scheduling. If you’re unsure, call us and we can help you figure it out.

Please bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card, a list of current medications, any prior imaging or relevant medical records, and a referral from your primary care physician if your insurance requires one.

You’ll lie on a padded table that slides into the MRI scanner. The exam typically takes about 30 to 60 minutes, including preparation time. During the scan, you will hear a series of tapping and buzzing sounds — this is completely normal. You’ll be offered standard hearing protection or a stereo headset, and our technician will speak with you throughout the exam to keep you updated. If you have concerns about enclosed spaces or metal implants of any kind, let us know before your appointment.
An EMG (electromyography) test evaluates the electrical activity of your muscles and the function of your nerves. It typically involves two parts: a nerve conduction study using small electrodes on the skin, and a needle electrode portion where a thin needle is briefly inserted into specific muscles. Most patients experience mild discomfort during the needle portion, but the test is generally well tolerated. Your physician will walk you through the full process in advance.
